A tale of two Tities (part3)
Now the final touch, the addition of a feather lining. An old nest examined contained 2000 feathers from various birds, collected in the mornings, dropped as other birds preen themselves. The spiders web uses is the outer web 'tension wires’ that are stronger than steal size for size and easy to work on the nest as they aren't the sticky strands used to catch insects. These birds will lay 8 to 12 eggs and both parents sleep in the nest with their tails folded over their heads in order to fit in. Eggs are being laid right now at one per day so I will leave them in piece for a few weeks then see if I can get some shots of the young ones emerging.
