"Happy New Year" ...to one and all.
In addition to the above video, let me tell you a little bit more....
When I was a child the main road from Brighton to Lewes wasn't anything like it is today, just like a 'b' road today and the Spring that emerged as the Winterbourne used to emerge from a spring in a ditch just before the Newmarket Inn half way between Lewes and Falmer. It was, and still is, rainwater that fell on the Downs in the winter and filtered through the chalk and gushed across the road into a dish on the eastbound side alaong a row of beech trees that are still there today. From there it went through a pipe under the road that is the first turning left from the first turning to Lewes off the new roundabout and into a private bluebell woodland that runs into Lewes past the stables and allotments, then through the houses and Grange gardens under the Railway station carpark and emerging again right behind me in the video above. Its one of only about 220 chalks streams in the world, of which 198 are in in Britain, the majority of that are in southern England.
the tunnel exit behind me is a haven for the brown trout that live in the Railway Land nature reserve and a major feeding site for the Kingfishers that nest under the footbridge just behind the Linklater pavilion.
I'll be making a full length video this year to kick start a Youtube channel so do keep an eye open for Instagram posts and further blogs and do keep in touch if you see anything interesting?
Wishing you all a peaceful and healthy year and hope to cross paths now and then out and about, Steve
